The Twenty-One in Truro Artists

May 29 - June 22, 2020

Reception: Friday June 5, 5 - 7 pm

Landrau-Partan Gallery at the Fallmouth Art Center

137 Gifford St, Falmouth, MA 02540

In 1999 twenty-one Cape Cod women convened for an artist’s retreat in Truro. They painted and shared ideas about creativity. They formed a bond, making a commitment to return each fall to

the five Sladeville cottages they share on the Pamet River. Each year they paint, hike, kayak, photograph, read, talk, picnic, and express their individual responses to the natural beauty of the Outer Cape. During this focused interval, the twenty-one artists support one another in meeting the challenges of leading a creative life.

"This beautiful place called Cape Cod is such an inspiration for me. I see shapes and colors in the ponds, the marshes, the bogs, the cedar swamps, the ocean and the bays. A small painting or drawing done on site becomes the impetus for the large colorful abstract oil paintings created in my studio. Pushing even further with simplifying and emphasizing
the geometric design elements has lead to the latests series of oil paintings where much is blocked out or removed by covering over unnecessary elements. This series is being shown for the first time in Constant / Changes at the Sigel Gallery at the Falmouth Art Center.
